[DISCUSSION][RULING] Combat Speed

So Combat Speed!

The speed at which combat occurs in PTU is exceptionally slow, however there are a number of things we can ALL do to speed it up. They are as follows:


  • ALWAYS prepare your turn while waiting for your next turn, essentially come up with your actions BEFORE your turn comes around, don't be figuring that out during your turn, it's slow and not fun for anyone
  • USE MACROS I will be working on a unified script for Roll20 that will let you easily put in your attack and damage rolls (Among other things) without needing to look up certain things in the books every time, this is another instance of slowdown that can be avoided by a bit of player preparation
  • KNOW YOUR CHARACTER I have written more detailed about this in another topic on writing a cheat sheet, but it applies here when improving the speed at which you take your actions.
  • UNDERSTAND COMBAT STAGES Combat stages are quite a difficult thing to understand due to their mathematical issues, however Roll 20 can allow you to do this without the need for your own calculation. You just need to remember how many combat stages you have up and how many you have down in what stats. See the combat stage example and table below:


If anyone has any other ideas to improve combat speed, post it here!

Combat Stage Example
Lets say a Normal type Pokemon uses Tackle and has 10 attack and +1 combat stage in physical attack. The resulting roll in roll 20 would be: /roll 2d6+10+(10*1.2) which equates to /roll 2d6+10+12, but with the brackets you don't need to calculate this yourself!

The following is a combat stage table:

Positive Combat Stages:



+1 = *1.2
+2 = *1.4
+3 = *1.6
+4 = *1.8
+5 = *2.0
+6 = *2.2

Negative Combat Stages

-1 = *0.85
-2 = *0.7
-3 = *0.55
-4 = *0.4
-5 = *0.25
-6 = *0.1

I can hearty recommend using a digital character sheet for PTU, as the one I'm using auto-calculates everything. eg
CS, evasion form CS.
Has look up tables for moves and ablilties, features and edges
Pokemon xp level up and stat tracking.
type weakness for pokemon(I've added light type to it)
